Lizumo

Variants

Mia has been passed down by word of mouth, and every table has its house rules. Agree on these before you start.

Reversed doubles

In many versions, including Board Game Arena's, the best double isn't double 6 but double 1: right after 21 come 11, 22, 33 and so on up to 66.

Blind pass

Instead of rolling, you pass the cup without looking and call the same score or a higher one. From then on the roll is yours, as if you'd made it. Useful when the player before you called low and you want to put someone further along in trouble.

Little Mia

31, usually the lowest score, becomes the second best after 21.

Joker 32

At some tables 32 has a special role, for example as a joker. There's no single rule: agree on it first.

Summed scores

For scores that aren't doubles you count the sum of the dice: 62 and 53 are both worth 8. Doubles stay separate.

Equal instead of higher

You may also call the same score as the previous player, not only a higher one. In this variant blind passing isn't allowed.

How many lives

The classic version gives everyone 6; many quick games, including those on Lizumo, use 3. The Mia penalty varies too: sometimes losing to a real 21 costs two lives, sometimes one.

Who opens the round

In some traditions the player who just lost opens the round, in others the next player. On Lizumo the loser opens.
